No plot armour? The whole Naomi Misora thing was insane plot armour for Light. No way a seasoned FBI officer like her falls for Light's bullshit. But then again, one could argue that her character was plot device to move the plot forward for the L vs Kira saga. Then again, one can poke as many holes in the story if they look for it.

But yes, I agree that this anime is a masterpiece.

To be clear, we're talking about the conversation at about 20:40

Many people who watch Death Note see Light as starting out with good intentions and gradually becoming more evil as the story goes on. But Ryuk implies here that Light's vision is evil and he isn't being virtuous. But he can also be interpreted in another way: he''s also implying that no one is actually "good"; everyone is "bad" to some degree. His standard of justice leaves the door open for him to kill anyone, which is what he ultimately ends up doing.

Also, in the last episode, Light contradicts what he says here by admitting he knew what he was doing was wrong. Ryuk sees through Light's lies (I think Light is lying to himself more than he's lying to Ryuk though; he's drunk with power and narcissim).

You can also read the novel DN another note: LA BB murder case. It is a prequel to DN, a story about L. It is also referenced in Episode 7 of Death Note.

There is a manga chapter, but its too short and not much fun. A manga without light is dark as they say.
